How to Sell Your Collection for Cash Money
We all collect something, don’t we? Even I have this minor obsession with nesting dolls. I finally had to admit that I had enough matryoshka dolls to call it a collection (just don’t tell anyone, because I’m in denial!).
Whether it’s comic books, toys, teacups, vintage cameras, concert posters, spark plugs (yes, people collect spark plugs) or Lego, there’s probably something you’ve been hoarding – errr, cultivating – for years. You love it. It’s curated. It’s special. It’s yours.

But after so many years, you might be wondering if you can get a little money for the stuff you’ve collected over the years. Can you sell your collection for some decent money? Probably yes, but it’s not always as easy as you might think. Here are a few options for selling your collection:
3 Ways to Sell Your Entire Collection
- Sell your collection on eBay. eBay may be 25 years old this year, but the site is still as relevant as ever with 174 million buyers. Chances are there’s a buyer on eBay for your collection. The challenges? If you’re not an experienced seller with a lot of listings, your listings can get buried among the millions and millions of items available for sale that are similar to yours. Plus, it takes a LOT of time to list every item individually. Do you have that kind of time? Writing a great listing that gets noticed, and pricing your items right, is a skill that takes a while to learn. And you don’t want your items just sitting there for months or years, when your goal is to sell your collection!
- Sell your collectibles through an auction house. If you need to get rid of a whole collection fast, an auction house is a good option. Drop it off, or use a company that runs the sale from your house, and within days it’s all gone and you’ve got a cheque. The drawback is that you have to accept whatever the auctioneer gets for your items, and sometimes the total can be a bit disappointing.
- Sell the whole collection to a private buyer. It can be a huge relief to put all of your items into a private buyer’s hands at once. You can wash your hands quickly and put money in your pocket. It’s the best option if you need to get rid of the collection fast – you don’t always get the highest price, but you get the money sooner, and for many people that’s really important. However, finding one person with enough cash to buy it all at once can be a challenge (fortunately, you can reach out to us to see if we can make a deal on your collection!)
Is now the right time to sell your collection?
When it all shakes down, your collection could be worth a lot more than you paid for it when you’re ready to sell, but you should be prepared for the possibility that it could be worth less. You might choose to wait a bit longer to see if the market value goes up – but on the other hand you might just need the space, and some money, today.
A fair buyer (like us!) will be honest with you about the approximate retail value of your collection, and might save you hundreds of hours of time by taking it off your hands all at once and putting cash money in your pocket – today.
